While it’s not officially Fall yet, it is definitely Election Season. Elections for the PASS Board of Directors opens up on September 17, 2015. Campaigning starts today with the announcement of the Official Slate of Candidates.
It’s a great slate and it will be hard to choose. I appreciate all the hard work the NomCom has done to provide us with such a great list of candidates. Please take the time to read each candidate’s application. This is the first year the NomCom scores have been made public. Members of the NomCom spend countless hours researching, interviewing and agonizing over how the scores are reached, so pay attention to them.
PASS has also come up with some community events for you to get to know your candidates. Take advantage of them to help you make your decision.
This is your community. Do your research then cast your vote. This is your opportunity to make a difference.
Serving on the Nomination Committee (NomCom) is such an honor. One that I was lucky enough to experience two years ago. It allows me to give back to the community that has given me so much over the years and continues to give back on a daily basis. This year’s NomCom will also be tasked with “streamlining the process for involving and evaluating candidates and with enhancing opportunities for community engagement in the elections.” I am very excited about this opportunity. When I served two years ago, I thought there was room for improvement in the process and it looks like this will be my opportunity to see if I can make a difference.
This year’s slate is a great one. There are former Board members, chapter leaders, former NomCom members & some very outstanding volunteers. I am excited to see there are so many taking an interest in their community. Please do your research on each candidate and make the choice that is right for you, then get out there and VOTE! It’s your community. Voting opens June 3 and closes June 6.
Did you know that it’s election season for PASS? Did you know that you can pose questions to the potential candidates via the Election Forums? The NomCom is busy interviewing candidates and is offering you the opportunity to ask the candidates question, via the NomCom. Do you have a question burning a hole in the back of your mind? You can ask anything from platform related issues to who their favorite sporting team is and just about anything in between.
This is your community, get involved.
So there seems to be some confusion as to what the NomCom’s job is. I have to admit I was confused about its job at one time as well. It took a couple of hours of sifting through blog posts, forums and documentation on the PASS site to finally figure it out. And it’s actually very simple.
The NomCom’s job is to take the criterion that is set forth by the PASS Board of Directors and make sure that everyone that applies for the Board of Directors positions meets those criteria, then present that list to the Board of Directors. Simple, isn’t it?
Please don’t mistake my simplified explanation of the NomCom’s job as being unimportant. The NomCom’s job is very important and it’s a huge commitment. So read about the candidates before you vote then vote. It’s your community.
